Microparticles consist of integrated type (matrix type) and reservoir type (capsule type). The capsule type is also called a microcapsule. Microparticles can combine a wide range of drugs, be prepared from biodegradable particles, and are biocompatible.
Microparticle preparation methods may result in microparticles, microspheres, or microcapsules. Microcapsules are porous systems with polymeric membranes, while microspheres are matrix systems with dispersed physically and uniformly drugs. Microspheres trap drugs and control their release through polymers. Different sizes of these particles provide several options for controlling the drug release rate. Eventually, it is polymers that can contain the release of trapped drugs.
